About the company

At an altitude of 105-135 meters above sea level, in the southeastern part of the Absheron Peninsula, the Botanical Garden is located, which is included in the green zone of the southeastern Baku system and at the same time is a cultural and educational center. The scientific significance of the Central Botanical Garden is demonstrated by the totality of the entire xerophyte flora, which has no analogue not only in the countries of the former Soviet Union, but also in Europe. This is explained, from a geographical point of view, by the location of the city of Baku at the junction of Asian and European flora. In addition, the association of botanists around the Botanical Garden has made it a center of botanical thought and research. In the Botanical Garden, in order to enrich the plant raw material base of the republic, extensive research work is being carried out on the introduction and acclimatization of decorative, medicinal, essential oil and other useful plants from Azerbaijan and foreign countries, the plant gene pool, including reproduction and protection of rare and endangered plants. A collection of more than 2,000 trees, shrubs, flowers and herbaceous plants from different botanical and geographical regions of the world, including the flora of Azerbaijan, was created in the Botanical Garden. The 1960s and 1978s were considered the years of the garden's prosperity. During this period, the Botanical Garden for landscaping the city of Baku, Ganja, Sumgayit and Nakhichevan Autonomous District transferred over 100 species of tens of thousands of trees, shrubs and flower plants, including to the Green Department of the city of Baku, industrial institutions of Absheron, Baku Air Conditioning Plant, Azerelektroterm Plant, Radio and Repair and Construction Plants, assisted in the landscaping of schools and kindergartens. At the same time, the Botanical Garden conducts seed exchange with 290 botanical gardens in 70 foreign countries, prepares agrotechnical recommendations for medicinal, essential oil, industrial and ornamental plants. Currently, the Central Botanical Garden has a collection of 125 species of rare and endangered plants from the Caucasian flora, which are included in the "Red Books" of Azerbaijan and the former USSR. The Academic Council and postgraduate studies function at the CLS. The Central Botanical Garden, as a cultural and educational center, as a wildlife museum, plays an indispensable role in preserving the gene pool of rare plants.
