In Azerbaijan, interest in table tennis arose in the 39-40s. After the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), table tennis sections began to be created in many institutions, organizations, factories and factories, and this sport began to develop gradually. In the early 50s, the Baku Table Tennis Section was organized, and then the Table Tennis Federation of the Republic. Since that time, various competitions in this sport began to be held regularly. In January 2005, the Azerbaijan Table Tennis Federation was headed by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ismet Abasov, who took measures to strengthen the Federation, create a stable material and technical support for the national team and, in general, develop this sport in the country. The Azerbaijan Table Tennis Federation maintains close and friendly relations with many foreign federations, including the Russian Table Tennis Federation. Since 1995, the Azerbaijan Table Tennis Federation has been a member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), which unites 207 national federations, and since the same year, a member of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU), which includes 56 European national federations, in 2007 a member of the Eastern European League. The Table Tennis Federation of Azerbaijan first began to participate in the European championships since 1996 and in the world championships since 1997. In 2010, for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan, four sports specialists were awarded the title of "Judge of the International Category".
